Haley’s Comet

Raising children is hard but watching them leave the nest can sometimes be the hardest part of parenthood. Learning to let go is not easy but just remember…you birthed a comet! Let em’ fly!

I wrote this poem to celebrate just that……

I carried her nine months in my belly so she could grow healthy and strong.
I carried her two years in my arms so she would know that she belongs.

I carried her three years on my shoulders so she could see the world all big and blue.
I held her hand for five years so she could learn that love is true.

I walked beside her for six years to help her find her way
I walked behind her for two years to prepare her for this day.

In 1986 Haley’s comet lit up the sky.
Then ten years later she came to me….a beautiful, unexpected surprise.

So now my comet leaves me…but I blog and brag that “She is MINE!”
God blessed me with a comet; my daughter…so divine.
